Those of you paranoid about security may be interested to know that WaveSecure, the mobile security application, is available to download free of charge on all Android handsets (as long as you register before the end of January). Once registered you get free lifetime membership. It supports other phones (Symbian and Windows Mobile) too where they charge €15 for the app.
WaveSecure helps you to secure and track down a lost or stolen phone. It tracks down your phone’s location and who is using it and even allows you to lock it down remotely! As well as this, you can backup or wipe all of your data remotely. The app can be downloaded from the Android Market, just search for WaveSecure. Check out a video demo of it in action after the break. [click to continue…]

Up until now the Acer Liquid Android smartphone has only been available in white. Well, for those waiting for the black version, you can now get that credit card to the ready. It is now available at several retailers including Clove and Handtec for around the £330 mark. Now we’re just waiting for that sexy red version to make an appearance…

As many of you will know, each of Android’s major new releases have been codenamed after delicious bakery goods, as well as running in alphabetical order. So far we’ve had Cupcake (v1.5), Donut (v1.6) and Eclair (v2.0) and apparently the next iteration will be called Froyo i.e. frozen yoghurt.
Engadget got the scoop via a conversation with Erick Tseng, Senior Product Manager of Android at Google. At the moment, there’s no idea how substantial an upgrade Froyo will be over v2.1 (a minor update of the Eclair release) or when we might expect it. Now I’m just wondering what they could use for the letter G…
One of the most common questions facing current/prospective owners of the Acer Liquid is when are they likely to see the update to Android v2.0. Well according to Frandroid, the update should be hitting no later than March 2010.
They received word from Augustine Becquet, Director of Acer Smartphones France, on the timeline. It seems Acer is still considering on how it will deliver the update, whether it is OTA (over the air) or via the Acer support pages. We’ll keep you posted on further developments.
Thanks Magnus!
The Acer Liquid Android smartphone has been out for just over a week and the reviews are finally starting to roll in. The great news for prospective purchasers is that overall impressions are positive. Despite the handset not being as polished in the UI department compared to its rivals, it still manages to score marks for its snappy processor and responsive touchscreen.
On the negative side, the handset has a “plasticky feel”, the camera is button is hard to press and the keyboard can be unresponsive. Check out the reviews released so far after the jump. [click to continue…]

The Acer Liquid phone was released last week but somewhat strangely the handset was not listed on the Acer website. However, Acer has finally got round to putting up the official details.
When the phone was announced, Acer didn’t reveal the official specifications, however we’ve now got the full spec-list, which we’ve attached after the jump. [click to continue…]
The Acer Liquid comes with RollTech’ nemoPlayer, a Java based media player that supports audio, video playback and an image slide show. TechnoloShree gives a thorough walkthrough the media player to give us an idea how it all works. It also comes with its own widget. Check out the video after the break. [click to continue…]
One of the most common questions that prospective Acer Liquid purchasers are asking, is will an Android 2.0 (Éclair) update be available for the handset. Phandroid is reporting that it will indeed and will start shipping in 2010.
Now they don’t cite how they know this information, nor do they give any sources. However, they are normally quite reliable so we’ll take their word for it.

The Acer Liquid Android smartphone has passed through the FCC, which is normally an indication that a device is due to launch in the US at some point. Interestingly, the report shows that it will come with support for both the 850 & 1900 frequency bands, the same bands that AT&T uses for 3G.
AT&T has not launched an Android handset so far and the Acer Liquid could very well be the first. It will want to make sure it can compete with Verizon that has embraced Android with its best-selling Motorola Droid and Droid Eris. T-Mobile has a number of Android handsets whilst Sprint has the HTC Hero. We’ll bring you more news as we have it.

The Acer Liquid has seen its first unboxing video courtesy of Paul from Modaco. It’s quite a thorough 12-minute video that goes through the requisite unboxing ritual along with giving us a look at the boot-up process and a quick flick through the menus and camera operations.
My impressions are that the Acer Liquid seems to be quite snappy in terms of flicking through menus (thanks to its Snapdragon processor). There’s only three home-screens here, compared to seven for the HTC Hero and one of these screens houses Acer’s ‘Spinlet’ widgets.
The Liquid comes with a glossy white back and the front display also looks reasonably glossy, hopefully this won’t detract from day-to-day use. The Liquid was also compared to the HTC Hero and whilst it is a bit wider, it’s mostly very similar in height and depth. It was a shame to see the microSD card slot stuck underneath the battery cover, so it’s not hot-swappable. Check out the full video after the break.
Update: YouTube member TechnoloShree also has a great unboxing video for you to check out below. If you still can’t get enough, then retailer Plemix has some impressions you can check out here. [click to continue…]
The Acer Liquid Android smartphone was only released this week, but modders have been hard at work and already rooted the handset. The great thing is that rather than any complicated procedure, the phone can be rooted via a one-click process.
For the uninitiated, rooting an Android handset allows you to install custom ROMs, change themes, remove preloaded apps, install apps onto the memory card and enables wireless tethering. As with all hacks, tread carefully to make sure you don’t brick your phone. If you want to give it a whirl click here.
