Android 2.0 source code released; greater chance of seeing it on Acer Liquid?

AndroidAcer haven’t said whether the Acer Liquid handset will see the latest & greatest Android 2.0 (Éclair) update at some point after release. The phone was announced to hit with Android 1.6 (Donut) only.

As the Acer Liquid handset is not a ‘Google Experience’ device, it will not see OTA updates. Acer has tweaked the Android OS, which means that like HTC and Motorola it will take longer for Acer to come out with the 2.0 update (if we see it at all).

However, in a surprise move, Google has released the source code for Android 2.0 to the Android Open Source Project. This was something that was under lock and key (even for some manufacturing partners!) This hopefully means that there is a much higher chance of seeing Android 2.0 (Éclair) on the Acer Liquid close to launch. We’ll be following developments closely.
