The Acer Liquid is due to hit UK shores tomorrow (December 7th) and therefore it’s probably not surprising to hear that we’ll start to see more impressions of the Android handset. One thing we haven’t come across so far is an idea on the imaging capabilities of the Android handset.
However, Italian site Batista70Phone, has come up trumps providing the first sample photo and a couple of videos to pore over. The Acer Liquid has a 5MP camera (with no flash) and video recording capabilities up to VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels).
It’s difficult to make any conclusive remarks over the picture quality, considering there’s only a sample of one, however we’ve found out a few things about the video quality. First off, it is disappointing to find out that videos are recorded using the poor quality AMR audio codec instead of AAC. This codec uses an 8000Hz Sampling rate.
If this wasn’t bad enough, it looks like the frame rates aren’t that smooth. The first video has an average frame rate of 22.3fps (min: 12.7fps), whilst the second video has an average frame rate of 20.7fps (min: 11.1fps). The good thing is that this can be sorted with firmware updates, although Acer’s track record for such is an unknown right now. The original sample files can be downloaded here. Check out both videos and the solitary sample photo after the break.

All the previous information (even in gsmarena) said that maximum video recording quality would be qvga.
