Acer Liquid eAcer has announced an update to its Liquid Android smartphone dubbed the ‘Liquid e’. This new handset will come with Android 2.1 (Éclair) versus version 1.6 on the original Liquid. Other improvements include five homescreens upped from three.

There’s also a new keyboard layout, an updated Android browser (supporting HTML5) and live wallpapers. A new quick contacts feature has also been added that allows you to switch between the address book and social networking applications.

All in all, it sounds like a decent update, but I do wonder whether original Liquid owners will be able to upgrade their firmware to the same as the ‘Liquid e’. I can’t imagine there’d be too many happy people if this wasn’t the case. Check out the full specs after the jump.

I have the same question too. If Acer unveils the new Liquid e, will the original Liquid get updated? If this is the case, people will not get the new headset, will they?

It seems the liquid won’t have multi-touch function in this update….

Where will I be able to get the Acer Liquid e from in the UK on a contract? O will I be better off buying off-line and using my excisting sim card, which is currently linked to ’3′?

I have just looked on Acers website and there does appear to be a OS update, the version is 2.000.16. I am guessing this would be Android Version 2.0 and not version 2.000.16 of Android 1.6.

stuart Carphone warehouse current sells the Acer Liquid in a contract, their cheapest deals are for 24 months, but they do have some 18 month ones that are £30 a month but you have to pay abit for the handset.

Mike – 2.000.16 is an update for 1.6 (Donut). Rooted mine to 2.1 at the weekend, but found it far too laggy and unresponsive, so taken mine back to 1.6 and will wait for the official update which is due this month I understand.

Acer providing a 2.1 update for existing A1 customers would be a smart move. It would show that Acer is supporting all their devices (unlike the original Samsung Galaxy for example). It also keeps sales up since people won’t go looking elsewhere while 2.1 is still not out and 1.6 looks kind of outdated.
